What a great weekend of MMA. Saturday night August 8th will be UFC 101 and Sunday get WEC live from the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vagas at 9:00 pm on Versus. I don’t know about you but I’m am very excited about this WEC event.
Here we go!
Miguel Angel Torres(36-1-0) vs Brain Bowles(7-0-0)
Torres puts his World Bantamweight belt on the line against the undefeated Brain Bowels. This is going to be a war. I bet this fight goes all five rounds. Torres has the experience and Bowles has the new fighter drive with the talent to push Torres. If Bowles plans on winning, he had better bring his A game and then a little bit more. Torres is no push over and will put Bowles to sleep if he is not careful. I expect a lot of action during this fight.
My pick: Miguel Torres
Bowels win with 1rd knockout
Joseph Benavidez (10-0-0) vs Doninick Cruz(13-1-0)
If Torres vs. Bowles wasn’t enough, we get Benavidez va Cruz. Fight of the night in the making right here. This is going to be a great fight. These guys will stand in the center of the cage and just go toe to toe all three rounds.
Mypick: Joseph Benavidez
Cruz win in decision
Ricardo Lamas(6-0-0) vs Danny Castillo (7-1-0)
This a very hard fight to call. Lamas and Castillo both have knock out power and are very skilled on the ground. This fight is a coin toss for me.
M pick: Danny Castillo
Castillo win 2nd rd tko
Takeya mizugaki(11-3-2) vs Jeff Curran (31-11-0)
This is a smiple pick for me. I have to pick my boy Curran.
My pick: Jeff Curran
Mizugaki win in decision
The Under card
Leonard Garcia (16-4-0) vs Jameel Mussouh(21-5-0)
My pick: Leanard Garcia
Fredson Paixao(8-3-0) vs Cole Province(6-1-0)
My pick: Cole Province
Marcus Hicks(8-2-0) vs ShaneRoller (5-2-0)
Mypick: Marcus Hicks
Ed Ratcliff (6-1-0) vs Phil Cardella(12-3-0)
My pick: Phil Cardella
Diego Nunes(12-0-0) vs Rafael Dias(13-5-1)
My pick Diego Nunes

With Affliction being a major EF up or in better words some of their pinhead fighters focusing on steroids rather than fighting, us MMA fans have to wait yet another week for some action. Perhaps this wait will be worth it though. Like you James, I am amped for August 8th and August 9th. It is going to be a weekend of explosive fights. WEC brings us their 42nd event and it looks to be a exciting one. The only thing that bothers me about this company is the fact that the same fighters appear every other event. It is about time for WEC to either bring back other weight classes or add some new talent to the pool.
With that said, I believe Miguel Torres is a beast for the bantamweight class. He walks through the best WEC has to offer like a walk in the park. Honestly, who is going to step up to the plate and give this guy a challenge like Mike Brown did Urijah Faber. Torres is UNDEFEATED in 5 years, does that say enough about his reputation as best pound for pound fighter in MMA. Now to Bowles. This guy is no slouch, but coming off of a surgery to fight a TITLE fight does not sound appealing to me. In other words, I do not think he will be physically prepared for Torres in any aspect. I might be wrong, but I am confident Torres will come out with a win by TKO.
Joseph Benavidez vs Dominick Cruz- Uh yeah, this fight boils down to the little doverman pincher Joseph constantly ankle biting his opponents and dragging them to the ground like an undersize NFL linebacker. This kid is a new MMA prospect that has the potential to go very far. Seeing that he trains with some of the best in the bantamweight class and has Urijah as an assistant, Joseph Benavidez brings a new talent that other bantamweights need to watch out. However, I think his talent will only bring him so far. Seeing that he is about five foot nothing, if he fights Miguel Torres for a title fight (if Miguel retains it) in the future, I do not perceive Joseph having any advantage over Miguel. Miguel being 5’11 will dominate him in any aspect because of height and experience. Overall though, my pick goes to Joseph over Dominick by decision.
Although I am interested in the rest of the fights, the only other fight I want to converse about is the leonard Garcia fight vs Massouh. Coming off of a loss to Mike brown for the welterweight title, I think Leonard’s Mexican Pride is going to rage out on Massouh. Not to knock Jameel, but I think Leonard is going to pound Jameel around like a training session with a dummy. Hands down I am choosing Garcia by TKO in this fight.
Now all we have to do fight fans is sit back, be patient and wait for the time to come. I can almost hear the roars and I am amped for a weekend of thrills, excitement, drinks, submissions, decisions and some nasty knockouts!

Great comment Brenden. Did you know that Torres want to fight Mayweather. Torres want to shut him up. Mayweather said some racist things about white people and MMA.Of course it did get a lot of coverage. I hope Torres Knocks him out and shuts him up. I liked Mayweather until now.

You know James, Mayweather made a comment back about a year or two ago on BET’s Iron Ring show. Although he is arrogant on every possible level, I have to hand it to the man, he walks the walk even though he talks the talk.
On your question about Torres wanting to fight Mayweather, no I did not know about that nor have I heard that. That is an interesting topic to converse about. Personally, I believe Torres needs to continue to focus on MMA and leave boxing for another lucky contestant. Torres is a Multi-talented fighter that focuses on more than one style. On the contrary, Mayweather trains one style and that is Boxing. That is what he does and he is a superb athlete at it. Grant it Torres has good striking, but to compare him with Mayweather in a boxing match does not intrigue me in any manner.
Finally, to touch on Mayweather making racist comments… The man is all about publicity and anything that will get him further into the public eye appeals to him. He lovesssss attention and he certainly received it when he racially slurred white citizens. I am not sure if anyone will ever shut up Mayweather inside the ring, but no one is untouchable and if he gets to cocky for his britches, he might get caught in the street one day and actions may not go the way he would want. So the lesson learned here today is… If you do not got something nice to say, don’t say it at all or at least do not portray it to the Public Mayweather. We know you are great, but do you got to keep stating it while putting down others??? You better bring your A game come September. Two years off from boxing to come back to fight Marquez??? This could be a BIG stepping stone for Mayweather. Lets see if he walks the walk after he talks the talk.
