This Saturday MMA Punk will be doing hat we do best when James posts Live Results for each of the fights that will air during UFC 97 in Montreal, Quebec. James did the Live Results and fight by fight information during last Saturday’s first Strikeforce event on Showtime and he did such an excellent job we figured why not let him do it again. Way to go James.

UFC 97 is a stacked fight card full of exciting world class fighters as we would expect to see from the UFC, Chuck Liddell is back in action and needing a big win if he would like to continue moving forward in the UFC. Anderson Silva is also on the card taking on yet another challenger for his very well protected title, Thales Leites is your challenger. We will also be posting Live UFC 97 results for fights featuring Steve Cantwell, Brian Stann, and Cheick Kongo with a round by round break down for each fight. UFC 97 – Anderson Silva vs. Thales Leites
Saturday, April 18, 2009
Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec

UFC 97 Fight Card
Anderson Silva (23-4) vs. Thales Leites (13-1)

First round. Slow to get going. Nothing has happened in the first two minute of the first round but dancing around.With two minute to go still nothing has really happened. Leites throws a leg kick and Silva throws him down. Leites then tryed to take down Silva but the round ends. Silva win the round.

Round two. They come to the center of the cage. Leites takes down Silva and moves around for position. Silva makes it back to his feet and they just circle in the center of the cage. Again nothing really happening int he round. Leites wins the round with the only take down.

Round three. Leites moves in for a take  down Sliva move away. Leites back to his feet. L ight contactfrom both fighters but nothing happing. SIlva finaly throwing some kicks and punches. round ends. Silva wins the round.

Round four. Leites tryng very hard to get Silva to the ground with no luck.Silva landing some crazy  kicks to the knee . They circle the cage. Silva landing nice stright punches. Silva looking better in this round but the action is very slow. Silva wins the round.

Round five. They circle but nothing is really happening. Silva takes down Leites a little ground and pound. They’re back to there and the croud chants bullshit. Leites tryes over and over to get Silva down with no luck. Sliva just landing light punches and Leites backon the ground. The round ends. Silva wins the round and the fight. not alot of action in this fight.

Chuck Liddell (21-6) vs. Mauricio Rua (17-3)

The fans go crazy when Chuck came out. Oh my god!  Chuck Liddell come out with raining blood by SLAYER.

Round one. Chuck landing some nice leg kick and a nice left. They move around and Rua takes Chuck down. Chuck stands right back up. Then Chuck takes down Rua. They stand back up. Chuck gets caught by a huge left hook and drops Chuck. Rua moves in dropping hammer fist and the fight is over. Rua wins by TKO.

Brian Stann (6-1) vs. Krzysztof Soszynski (16-8-1)

They start of the round by standing and trading blows in the center of the cage. They tie up against the fence. Stann lands some great knees to Soszynski. Soszynski takes Stann down hard and moves to full mount and then two half guard to get a kimura. Soszynski wns by submission.

Luiz Cane (9-1) vs. Steve Cantwell (7-1)

And here we go with the first fight of the night. Cane started off throwing some nice punches and nice leg kicks. Cane showing some great power. Cantwells face showing some damage already.  Blood running from Cantwell nose. Cane landing nice combos, ribs then to the head. Cane wins the round!

Round two. Cane still landing some hard jabs. Cane is stalking Cantwell. They stand and trade in the center of the ring. Cantwell taking a lot of punches. Cantwell fires a nice kick to the ribs and Cane takes a hard right and he’s hurt. Cantwell lands a hard body kick and another hard right. Cantwell land a couple of nice right hands and win the round.

Round three. Cantwell taking some hard shots backs off land a nice body kick. Cane seems to be getting tired but still landing some hard punches. They stand a trade in the center of the ring.  Cantwell lands some nice combos. Cane comes back and land some hard punches to the face. Cane win the round.

Cane won the fight.

Cheick Kongo (23-4-1) vs. Antoni Hardonk (8-4)

This should be a great fight. Hardonk landed some hard leg kicks to Kongo early on. They tie up of the fence. They move back to the center and Hardonk throws  a leg kick and Kongo throws Hardonk to the ground. They’re back to their feet clinched up against the fence. Kongo takes Hardonk down landing some hard punches and elbows. Kongo wins the round.

Round two. Hardonk lands a hard leg kick and falls to the ground. Kongo move in and starts ground and pound. Hardonk has a cut on his forehead. Kongo lands some hard shots and Hardonk is hurt. The fight is stopped. Kongo wins

What about Chuck? Does this close another chapter for his career. I know he isn’t done yet but he is probably starting to think about it. You wrote “Chuck gets caught by a huge left hook and drops Chuck.” Maybe Chuck is his worst enemy LOL. Great coverage but needs more bloody details. Where any titles on the line?
