Ok fight fans UFC 109 is now in the books and it turned out to be a incredible night of fights again.
UFC 109 could have been the last time two of the fighters will ever step foot into the cage. Frank Trigg wanted to end his career with the UFC and I believe he did just that last night. Losing to Matt Serra by a first round TKO was the last time you will see Trigg in the octagon, but is his career over? Good question, only Trigg can answer that but after losing two fights in a row to first round KO’s, it would seem the right thing to do.
Chael Sonnen shocked the world with a huge win over Nate Marquardt. He didn’t just get beat, he was dominated for all three rounds. Marquardt had no answer for Sonnen’s power and aggression and spend almost 15 minutes on his back eating Sonnens’s elbows and right hands. Huge win for Sonnen and next will be a shot at Silva or Belfort and the title.
Randy Couture proved one again his is only getting better with age. He out boxed Coleman the entire first round and made short work of him in the second. I’m sure we have seen the last of Mark Coleman in the octagon. He had a great career and did a lot for the sport of MMA. Thanks for all the great fights and all the great thing you have done for the sport. Whats next for Randy Couture I don’t know but I will be there to watch it.
Let’s get to the fights!
Matt Serra vs Frank Trigg
R1 The action began with Serra landing a few punches, Trigg defends well. They exchange again Serra landing a nice body shot. Trigg staying to the outside not wanting to get in close with Serra and his right hand. They exchange again Trigg throws out his jab Serra comes over the top and his right hand finally hit it’s mark and drops Trigg. Serra right on top of him. He lands a few more punches and it’s all over.Trigg protested the stoppage but in the replay you could clearly see he was out.
Matt Serra win by TKO 2:23 seconds in the first round.
Demain Maia vs Dan Miller
R1. They start the fight with a few short exchanges. Maia tries to clinch but unsuccessful. Maia ducks under and tries a take down but can’t make it happen. Maia throws a kick and shoots in and get the take down but he can’t keep Miller there. They return to there feet in the clinch Maia lands a knee fight in the bean bag of Miller the ref doesn’t see it . Maia lands a few punches before Miller can move away and let the ref know he was hit low. The action resumes Maia getting another take down but Miller right back up. They exchange a few punches and the round is over.
R2. Miller working his stand up and landing some nice punches. Miller getting the better of Maia in the stand up game. Maia changes his stance to better counter punch Miller. It works and Maia’s timing miller punches and starting to land nice counter punches. Maia out striking Miller at this point. The round ends, Maia wins the round.
R3. The round starts with both fighters exchanging hard. Miller backs away and Maia move to the clinch but can’t get Miller to the ground. As they move away Miller lands a couple of punches and Maia looks a little staggered. Maia moves away and recovers, then shoots in and get a take down. Working on Miller, Maia lands a strikes while Miller is on the ground but works his way back to his feet. Maia shoots again and take Miller back down. Maia tyring to work some ground and pound. Maia lands a few punches here and there but nothing really heavy. The Fight ends with Maia on top of Miller.
Demain Maia wins by unanimous decision
R1. Thiago start the fight with a nice head kick. Swick returns fire with a big overhand right but misses. Thiago kicks Swick in the leg and Swick if off balance and stumbles away eating a punch in the process. Thiago out landing Swick at this point in the fight. Thiago lands another leg kick and Swick stumbles away. Swick landing a few nice jabs here and there but nothing really doing any damage so Swick decides to take it to the ground. He shoots in and gets the take down but Thiago nor Swick really do anything on the ground. The round ends.
R2. Swick comes out firing at Thiago landing nice jabs and just misses with a big right hand. Thiago keep out of Swicks ranges landing leg kicks. Swick moves in a land a nice left hook and eats a few punches as he exit. They exchange again Swick is hit with a big punches and falls to the canvas. Thiago is all over him. Thiago move in and sinks in a nasty d’arce choke. Swick refused to tap and lights out for Swick the ref pulls Thiago off him.
Paulo Thiago win by 2 round submision.
Nate Marquardt vs Chael Sonnen
Hold on to you hats if your a Marquardt fan, you will not like what I’m about to tell you.I’m not really going into full detail about this fight because I found it very had to watch being a Marquardt fan. R1. Sonnen came out aggressive wanting to fight hard with Marquardt. They exchanged a few times and Sonnen shoots in and takes Marquardt down and then starts bringing the pain. Sonnen is super aggressive on the ground. Sonnen landing big elbows and punches and Marquardt not handling it very well. This continues this for the rest of the round. I should just say the rest of the fight and end it.
R2. Sonnen just moved forward and just has his way with Marquardt. Taking him down again and just pounding on Nate’s head. Marquardt lands an elbow from the bottom that opens a huge cut on Sonnen forehead. Blood pouring out all over Marquardt. Sonnen’s not really bothere with the cut continues to work on Marquardt, grinding him down with short punches and elbows. Marquardt tries to get free and scramble but Sonnen is all over him.
R3. Marquardt looking very tired for the beating he has been taking for over ten minutes. Sonnen just steam rolling Marquardt and back to the ground they go. Sonnen just domination the fight. This goes on for about 4 minutes with one minute to go Marquardt decides to do something and rolls Sonnen off him and take top position and starts dropping bombs on Sonnen but it to little to late. The fight is over.
Chael Sonnen win by unanimous decision
Randy Couture vs Mark Coleman
R1. They move to the center of the cage and start to exchange. Randy working his jab and Coleman returning fire with some punches of his own. Randy move in a gets Coleman to the fence and starts taking control of the fight. Randy using his dirty boxing starts to pick apart Coleman. Coleman’s head snapped back several time from big upper cuts from Randy. Randy landing some big knee’s in the clinch and just destroying Coleman. Randy keeps Coleman on the fence and just landing everything he has. Coleman tries to get away but has no luck. Not looking good for Coleman at this point in the fight.
R2. They move to the center of the octagon and start to trade jabs again. Coleman is on the wrong side of the exchange again. Randy backs him up to the fence and start blasting Coleman with punches. Coleman eating a steady diet of punches from Randy has no answer for the onslaught. Randy get a body lock and takes Coleman down. Randy raining down punches on Coleman’s melon, he turns and gives Randy his back. If you a fight fans you know where this story is headed. Randy sinks in both hooks and drop some punches on Coleman to losing him up and then slides his arm arm around and sinks in the rear naked choke. Coleman refused to tap and the ref pulls Randy off just as Colman goes out.
Randy Couture wins by 2 round submission.

Great night of fights ! I didn’t watch as I was on a military ex. (Winter Warfare) in Northern N.B on the Quebec border. Ya it was super f’n cold, wish I was watching the fights! Bam won our pool , everything but Sonnen right! Me too but I didn’t get any add ons from correctly picking Dec./tko’s etc. He told me Thiago looked like a killer vs. Swick. Well I can’t wait to hear all the comments on this fight card, I’m going to check out all the clips of the night on another site so I can have my say too! Congrats to the winner of the contest because I was off on mostly all of the outcomes, only 3 of 5 on the fighters in this pool though ( Took Swick and Nate) , not too bad but surely alot farther to go. Thanks to MMA punk and Extreme John for having such an insanely awesome contest , I’m already pumped for the next one… -out-

It’s sucks you had to miss UFC 109 I understand being in the military Ben there myself. Bro I have a lot of respect for you going in into the cold. I hate the cold weather. Thats why I moved to florida.
The contest scores were low this time because everyone picked Nate and Swick to win and Randy by decision. Thiago looked badass against Swick. I don’t know if he sink in the choke in really fast or Swick just didn’t want to tapout but he choke his unconscious. Brutal choke out. Glad you ready for the next one because it justs two weeks away and what a great fight card it should be.

I’m not a fan of football but it was a good game. Manning wasn’t having his best night.I would have liked to have seen the Colts win but Congrat to the Saints for pulling off the W.

man, thats almost word for word. I was pulling for the Colts last night in my Steelers jersey. When Peyton threw an int in the 4th I was aliitle dissapointed but when NWO finally won I waant that upset, I said, ahhh good for them. My team wasnt there but I still enjoyed it, good game Payton didn’t get anything going after the 1st quarter. Whats up with Nate though, is Sonnen in line for a shot now? Crazy stuff, It’s wide open. It seems that all the conntenderts can win against eachother. Only the 3 champs Penn, St.Pierre and Silva seem like they too much. Should get pretty interesting this year.

I hope they push Silva vs. Sonnen now that Belfort is out. I was surprised that Coleman wouldn’t tap, but I thought that made the fight all the more interesting. I could have done without the taunting of Tito at the end. I don’t care for Ortiz either, but Coleman was already having enough trouble finishing his interview.

No need of that stuff. Maybe he should have tried worrying about himself and not playing Tito’s game.

Tito has to be one of the most hated Fighter in all of MMA. Coleman knew it was the last time he would be in the octagon he just didn’t want to end it with a tapout. Looks like Sonnen vs Silva might not happen it could be Demain Maia in stead.
