Ok fight fans here we go, it’s UFC 109: Relentless, Saturday, February 6, live on pay-per-view from the Mandalay Bay Events Center, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Randy “The Natural” Couture and Mark “The Hammer” Coleman will finally square off in the Octagon. The first time two UFC Hall Of Famers will step into the octagon. The top two middleweight contenders, Nate Marquardt and Chael Sonnen, will square off and determine who will take the next shot  at the title.  Former champion Matt Serra and two-time title challenger Frank Trigg, meet for the first time and could decide the fate of both of their careers. Josh Koscheck was to rematch Paulo Thiago, but he was forced to pull out of the fight due to injury. Lucky for us fellow team mate Mike Swick stepped up and took the fight. The should be a great fight card with a ton of action.

There is a lot of action to cover so let get to it.

Main card:

Randy Couture (17-10) vs Mark Coleman (16-9)

Randy doesn’t have the best record in MMA, but he has fought the best of the best in two divisions. Win or loss Randy always give us his best. His last fight with Brandon Vera at UFC 105 was not a highlight reel fight, but he got the win. People away think Randy fights are going to be boring, but end walking away saying to themselves, Wow what a great fight. Is it time for Randy to hang it up and move onto the next phase of his life? I guess only Father time will tell.

Mark Coleman doesn’t have the best record in MMA either, but he also has an impressive resume and fought the sport’s best fighters. Father time has caught Mark Coleman and this could be his last fight. His last fight was against Stephan Bonner at UFC 100, he won by decision, but is he ready for Randy Couture?

I believe this will be a very strategic game for both fighter. If Randy can keep Coleman off of him on the ground, Randy should have no problem handling Coleman on there feet. Who every controls the ground will win this fight.

My pick: Randy Couture by decision

Nate Marquardt (32-8-2) vs Chael Sonnen (25-10-1)

Nate Marqardt is on the road to a rematch with Anderson Silva, but first he will have to get through Chael Sonnen. Nate lost to Anderson Silva at UFC 73 by tko in the first round. Since then, he has only lost one fight and that was to Thales Leites at UFC 85. He has won his last three fights and beat some great names in the division like Martin Kanpamann, Wilson Gouveia, and he destroyed up and comer Demian Maia with a 21 second first round knockout at UFC 102.

Chael Sonnen is on a 2 fight win streak and both fight went the distance. Chael lost to Demian Maia at UFC 95 by a triangle choke late in the first round. This is going to be a big test for Chael. He had better bring his a game, if he plans on beating Nate and Greg Jackson.

I believe Nate will have his hands full dealing with Sonnen. I think these guy are equal in both the ground game and the stand up. Nate will use his experience and athleticism to over power Sonnen and impose his will. This should turn out to be a great fight.

My pick: Nate Marquart 2rd TKO

Mike Swick (14-3) vs Paulo Thiago (12-1)

Mike Swick stepped in for injured Josh Koascheck to face Thiago. Swick’s last fight was against Dan Hardy at UFC 105, Swick lost by decision and now has to get back in line for title shot. Swick was on a tear through the division until he met up Hardy. Swick will be looking to get back in his winning ways against Thiago.

Paulo Thiago was undefeated until UFC 100 where Jon Fitch won by decision. Thiago also beat Swick’s team mate Josh Koshcheck by TKO last in the first round at UFC 95. Thiago must get past Swick’s revenge plan and get this fight into the later rounds if he wishes to take home the win.

Thiago will have a big advantage on the ground. Thiago will have to find a way to deal with the speed of Mike Swick. The only way, Thiago can win this fight is to get it to the ground and keep Swick there. If Thiago stands with Swick he will get picked apart with his hand speed. Swick has to fight a smart fight and avoid the ground or he will not have a good day.

My pick: Mike Swick by decision

Demian Maia (11-1) vs Dan Miller (11-2-0-1)

Demian Maia was undefeated until Naye Marquart took his head of in 21 second at UFC 102. Before that he was putting together a very impressive resume of wins. Maia beat both Nate Qurry (UFC 102) and Chael Sonnen (UFC 95) by first round submission. He has a deadly ground game and he can stand and bang if the situation calls for it.

Dan Miller is working on a impressive resume of wins himself. He would love to add one more to his list on Feb.6th. Miller is also very good on the ground and he can stand and throw hands too. This is going to be a hard fight to predict because these guys are kinda an even match.

This fight will be won on the ground and I will give the advantage to Maia. Miller will have to work hard and keep Maia off of him and hold his ground.

My pick: Demian Maia 2 rd submission.

Matt Serra(16-6) vs Frank Trigg (19-7)

Matt Serra the loudest mouth in all of MMA. Serra lost his title to GSP at UFC 83 by second round tko and his last fight was against Matt Hughes at UFC 98 where he lost by decision. Serra is looking to get in the winners circle to keep his career going. Serra has a great ground game and he can stand and trade punches but I think he might just be over whelmed by Trigg.

Frank Trigg was on a 4 fight win streak before he came back to the UFC. Josh Koscheck gave him a bad welcome back to the octagon with a devastating tko 1:25 in the first round at UFC 103. Trigg also has a great ground game and he can throw hand with anyone. Not really excited about this fight. I just don’t see a lot of action for these two.

There is a lot on the line for both fighters. The loser will be dropped by the UFC and possibly retire. With that much on the line, the fighter who shows up in the best shape and has the will to win should take this fight.

My pick: Fran Trigg 2rc TKO

Fight Card for Spike TV:

Mac Danzig (19-7-1) vs Justin Buchholz (9-4)

My pick: Matt Danzig

Melvin Guillard(41-9-3-1) vs Ronnys Torres (14-1)

My pick: Melvin Guillard

The prelims:

Rob Emerson (10-8-0-1) vs Phillipe Nover (6-2-1)

My pick:Rob Emerson

•Phil Davis (4-0) vs Brian Stann (8-2)

My pick:Brian Stann

•Tim Hague (10-2) vs Chris Tuchscherer (17-2-0-1)

My pick:Chris Tuchscherer

•Rolles Gracie (3-0) vs Mostapha Al Turk (6-5)

My pick:Rolles Gracie

Trigg!!! Man is that a gut feeling or do you not like Serra. I’ll take your word for it. Serra looked so good with Hughes, Trigg, does he have the Stamina? Now I’m all f’d up.

This is Triggs last shot. If he loses his will no longer fight in the UFC or any where else. That feeling make him very dangers and I bet he has trained his ass off for this fight.

Do you think a win or even a loss for Serra = a new career as a lightweight.

Serra had better win or he will be gone from the UFC. Moving to Lightweight would be a great move for him.

Trigg is close to the end and he knows it. I just think that makes him very damgers.
