UFC 108 Fight Predictions

by James on December 27, 2009 211 views to the Head

Ok fight fans, here we go! It’s UFC 108 on Jan 2, 2010 live on pay-per-view from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

This fight card has been cursed with injures form the start, the most injures in UFC history for one single fight card. I believe the card is now set, let’s hope the curse is over and the fighters stay healthy.

UFC 108 will feature former light heavy weight champion Rashad Evans against the Brazilian powerhouse Thiago Silva. Sliva  destroyed Rashad’s training partner Keith Jardine in 95 seconds at UFC 102. Rashad is looking for a little revenge and a win puts him back in the hunt for another title shot.

The other fights on this card turned out really good and I am very excited to see Dustin Hazelett  vs Paul Daley, Joe Lauzon vs  Sam Stout and Junior Dos Santos  vs Gilbert Yvel . These are some greats fights and there should be fireworks in the cage come Jan 2.

Rashad made made it on to my list of top 10 most hated MMA fighters, so make sure you check out my list and leave a comment and leave a list of your own. Also enter the UFC 108 fight prediction contest and you could win $100! just for predicting the out of the fights.

Rashad Evans(18-1-1) vs Thiago Silva (14-1-0)

Rashad’s last fight he lost his title to Lyoto Machida by TKO at UFC 98. Rashad took the job as coach on the TUF 10, then him and Rampage were supposed to have a grudge match. Rampage has lost his mind and thinks he’s a movie star now, saying he quit fighting, now he says he’s coming back.  Rashad fighting out of Greg Jackson’s camp has put on a striking display in his fights with Forrest Griffin and Chuck Liddell. He will need that experience to get his through the fight with Thiago Sliva. Rashad has improved every time he has stepped into the cage. This is going to be a huge test to see if Rashad is really ready to take another shot at the title.

Thiago Silva and Rashad has one very important thing in common, they both suffered their first loss in the pro career’s at the hands of Lyoto Machida. Thiago lost to Machida at UFC 94 by first round knock out, but came back strong against Keith Jardine and TKO’d him in 95 seconds at UFC 102. Rashad lost his title to Machida at UFC 98 by a devastating 2 rd knock out. The first loss on his record and his first knock out.

Rashad is known for his wrestling back ground and now his developed striking game. Twelve out of 14 Thiago wins have been by TKO or KO and only one win by submission. This fight should stay standing up, if it goes to the ground I will has to give the advantage to Sliva. Rashad and Thiago are both devastating strikers and I’m sure Greg Jackson has a plan to stop Thiago.

My pick: Thiago Silva 2rd TKO

Dustin Hazelett (14-4-0) vs Paul Daley (22-8-2)

Dustin Hazalett’s last fight was against  Tamdan McCrory at UFC 91where he pulled off a great reverse armbar for the win late in the first round. Hazalett will be looking to take this fight to the ground because he does not want to stand and bang with Paul Daley. Hazalett  definitely has the advantage on the ground, but the question is can he get Daley to the ground.

Paul Daley is on a three fight win streak and his last fight he destroyed Martin Kampmann in 2:31 seconds of the first round at UFC 103. Daley is a devastating striker and 14 of his 32 fights have didn’t make it out of the first round. Daley will dominate the stand up game, but if Hazalett can get his to the ground he could have a bad night.

My pick: Paul Daley 1rd KO

Joe Lauzon (17-4-0) vs  Sam Stout (15-5-1)

Joe Lauzon’s last fight was  at Fight Night Live 17 where he submitted Jeremy Stephens by armbar in the second round. Joe had better get this fight to the ground because if he stand with Stout he is going to see the tweety bird. Joe has a great ground game and he can stand and bang, just not against Sam Stout.

Sam Stout last fight at UFC 97 where he win by decision against Matt Wiman. Sam Stout will be looking to keep the fight standing because he will have a the advantage there. Stout’s has a ground game, but rarely do we get to see it because he likes to throw hands. If  Stout lets Lauzon take him down, he will rule the ground game, but standing up Stout should win hands down.

My pick:Sam Stout 3rd ko

Jim Miller(15-2-0) vs Duane Ludwig (11-4-0)

Jim Miller’s last fight was against Steve Lopez at UFC 103 where he won by second round stoppage due to a shoulder injury. Miller will have the advantage on the ground and I hope he is working hard on his stand up because he is going to need it.

Duane Ludwig’s last fight was at ROF 36 where he destroyed Ryan Roberts at 2:05 in the first round. Ludwig is a Muay Tai fighter and his hands and knees have bad intentions written all over them. Another classic battle the striker faces the grappler.

My pick: Jim MIller

Junior Dos Santos (9-1-0) vs Gilbert Yvel (36-13-1-1)

Junior Dos Santos last fight was against Mirko Filipovic at UFC 103. The only fight in his career that make it out of the first round. He stopped Filipovic in the third round with punches. Santos has a great stand up game and he also is no stranger to the ground.

Gilbert Yvel last fight was against Pedro Rizzo at FFI- Ultimate Chaos. He destroyed Rizzo in 2:05 seconds of the first round. Yvel is also a devastating striker and he has a ton of experience in the cage. He can  go to the ground but Santos should have the advantage. This is a great match up and should turn out to be a great fight to watch. Very excited about this fight.

My pick: Junior Dos Santos 2 rd tko

PRELIMINARY CARD (Spike TV)

•Martin Kampmann(15-3-0) vs. Jacob Volkmann(9-1-0)

My pick: Martin Kampmann

•Dan Lauzon(12-2-0) vs. Cole Miller(15-4-)

My pick: Cole Miller

PRELIMINARY CARD (Un-aired)

Steve Cantwell(7-3-0) vs. Vladimir Matyushenko(23-4-0)

my pick: Vladimir Matyushenko
Ryan Jensen(6-1-0) vs. Mark Munoz(15-4-0)

my pick:Ryan Jensen
•Jake Ellenberger(21-5-0) vs. Mike Pyle(15-4-0)

My pick:Mike Pyle
•Rafaello Oliveira(9-2-0) vs. John Gunderson(22-6-0)

My pick:Rafaello Oliveira

Hey James, It must of been a nightmare to do this with all the fighters dropping out left, right and centre. Some good picks there, but I really think Evans will beat Silva. I can see Evans controlling the fight with his wrestling and clinch game and wearing his opponent down.

I’m going for Gilbert Yvel by TKO but definitely agree it should be a great fight. Excited to see him in the UFC.

Keep up the good work buddy, it’s a great site and thanks to Extreme John for recommending this site.
