OK fight fans, UFC 107 is now in the books and what an incredible fight card it turned out to be.  There was a ton of action, three of the main card fights went to decision and one fight only lasted 1:12. If you missed this fight card, you missed some great fights and I’m sure one of the best fights of 2009. The under card took all three bonus: fight of the night, submission of the night and knockout of the night.

The main card

Paul Buentello vs. Stefan Struve

R1. Struve starts thing off with a big head kick with those very long legs. Paul blocks it and they exchange a few punches before Struve scores a take down and gets to the back of Buentello. Struve gets a nice body triangle and holds on trying to sink in a rear naked choke. Buentello does a get job of keeping his chin tucked not allowing Struve to sink in the choke. Beuentello finally breaks the triangle and works into Struve guard dropping a few bombs before the round ends.

R2 They exchange a few punches, then Struve decides to do a jumping knee and is caught by Buentello big right hand and drops Struve to the mat. Buentello lets the big man up and they exchange. Struve trying to get the fight to the ground jumps into guard standing up but falls to his back. Struve tries a for ankle lock with no success. Struve got rocked again with a big right hand trying to throw a knee. As the round ends, these guy just stand in front of each other and throw bombs. Trading back and fourth Struve steps back and gave Buentello a big smile, the two fighters touch glove as the crowd goes wild.

R3 Struve starts landed a hard leg kick on Buentello, keeping him at bay. Buentello eating leg kicks pushes through and get some punches in before Struve can land another leg kick.  The end of the round they end up firing away at each other. Great fight to start the night off.  Stenfan Struve wins by majority decision

Kenny Florian vs. Clay Guida

R1. Guida comes out very aggressive throwing leg kicks and nice jabs. Florian throws a huge head kick that misses, trips him up and they end up on the mat. Florian does a great job of keeping Guida off of him, with his feet on Guida’s hips. They get back to their feet where Florian lands a nice elbow to Guida’s head, opening a nice cut that bleeds like a water fall. Guida shoots but Florian sprawls and gets side control. They scramble back to their feet and Florian working hard on Guida. The ref stops the fight to have the cut on Guida’s head looked at. The Doc looked at the cut and said he could continue. Only 19 seconds left on the clock they go back at it until the bell rings.

R2. Guida moves in and tries to shoot in for a take down but Florian sprawls. They get back to their feet and exchange punches. Florian lands a huge right hand that drops Guida. Florian moves in for the kill, dropping bombs then takes Guida’s back and sinks in a rear naked choke. Guida taps and it’s all over. Kenny Florian wins by submission – rear naked choke.

Jon Fitch vs. Mike Pierce

R1. They move to the center of the octagon and Pierce fires first with a kick and misses. Fitch moves in and gets a take down. Fitch tries to sink in a rear naked choke, but can’t get Pierce’s chin. They scramble and end up back on there feet. Pierce scores a take down. Fitch does a great job and escapes back to his feet. They trade punches back and fourth. Fitch get a nice little cut around his left eye that is starting to bleed.

R2. They come out firing at each other, trading punches. Pierce shoots, but Fitch will have none of it. Fitch catches a kick from Pierce and takes him down, but Fitch isn’t really doing any damage to Peirce. Back to their feet, exchanging punches. Fitch takes him down again and gets his back, but no luck getting the choke.

R3. Fitch tries a take down, but is blocked by Peirce. They really start trading punches and move to the side of the cage. Peirce looking for a take down as he presses Fitch up against the cage, but Fitch scrambles and gets away. Near the end of the round, Fitch gets caught with a big punch and rattles him Pierce moves in, trying to finish him but the round ends. Jon Fitch win by unanimous decision.

Frank Mir vs. Cheick Kongo

They move in on each other and start to trade punches, Mir lands a huge over hand left that drops Kongo. Mir moves in to drop some punches, but as they scramble Mir gets Kongo in a guillotine choke. Kongo doesn’t tap and Mir choke him unconscious. Frank Mir win by submission guillotine choke 1:12 R1

B.J. Penn vs. Diego Sanchez

R1. They come out and circle each other until BJ Penn lands a huge right hand that drops Sanchez, Penn moves in for the kill but can’t make it happen. Sanchez recovers and makes it back to his feet. Sanchez moves in again and Penn lands the same right hand and drops Sanchez to his knees and he tries for a single leg take down with no success. Penn is picking Sanchez apart and Sanchez is so far off his game plan that all he wants to do is get the fight to he ground, but has no luck getting Penn down.

R2. Sanchez again tries for a take down with no success while taking  punches to the face. Penn moving forward, stalking Sanchez with his right hand and landing nice combinations. Sanchez land a few punches here and there, but nothing impressive. Sanchez is so desperate to get a take down that he forgets everything else and he is getting beat up in the process.

R3. This round is pretty much the same as the others. Sanchez’s corner should be fired, because they saw what he was doing was  not working. Telling Sanchez to take him down over and over, meanwhile Penn is just beating Sanchez in the face. Penn is just destroying Sanchez at this point.

R4. Sanchez is just beat up by Penn and again his corner didn’t give him any advice on how to counter Penn aggression. Sanchez is now so far off his game plan, he looks terrible. He keeps trying for a take down with no success. Penn is just landing lefts and rights at will, Sanchez has no answer for Penn. Sanchez’s  face is swollen bad and  his bottom lip is split open in the center and bleeding, not looking good for Diego.

R5. Again Sanchez tries for a take down, but Penn will have no of it. Penn unloads on Sanchez and opens up a huge cut on Sanchez forhead. The ref is forced to stop the fight. BJ penn wins by TKO.

I hope Diego can rebound from this fight like great fighters do. Penn’s boxing was just too much for Diego to handle. Seein Mir bulk up like that was very impressive . He looks like a new man on a mission for vengeance against his nemesis , Lesner.

Once Diego felt that right hand it was game over, Sanchez never managed to connect with anything.
