Ok fight fans, UFC 106 is now in the books and what a great fight card it turned out to be. Amir and Baroni had a three round war that should be on the list of top 100 greatest fights of all time. Tito and Forrest didn’t disappoint, they put on a great show and went to war for all three rounds.
Spike TV and UFC teamed up again to air a portion of the preliminary action on Spike TV and they were awesome. Kendall Grove vs Jake Rosholt and Ben Saunders vs Marcus Davis were featured.

Amir Sadollah Vs Phil Baroni
I thought Phil would come out and dominate Amir. I was wrong!. From the start both fighters were throwing nice solid punches and landing them. Amir got his chin tested over and over. Amir still kept coming and ended up in the clinch and landing knees. Baroni scores a take down but Amir stands back up.
The second round: They come out swinging. They trade back and forth, Amir lands huge leg kicks and getting the better of Baroni in the clinch. Amir working the clinch and landingbig elbows cutting Baroni’s right eye. Baroni lands a hard right hand and Amir just keeps coming. Amiris winning the fight and Baroni is looking gassed at this point.
Round three: Baroni comes out swinging for the fences because the only way to win will be by knock out. Amir landing sick leg kicks and wicked elbows in the clinch. Baroni will not go away and trades back and forth with Amir. You can never question the heart of Phil Baroni because he never gave up and kept coming back for more even at the end of the fight where he was getting punished by Amir.
Amir Sadollah defeated Phil Baroni by unanimous decision 30-27,30-27,29-28.
Luiz Cane vs Antonio Rogerio Nogueira
They feel each other out, Little Nog threw a few jabs followed by a big left hook that rocks Cane. Little Nog chasing Cane with his left hand and then connects with one more huge left and it’s all over.
Antonio Rogerio Nogueira defeated Luiz Cane by TKO at 1:56 seconds of Round 1
Paulo Thiago vs Jacob Volkmann
This fight was a battle on the ground, not the most entertaining fight in the world but we did get some action. Thiago scores a couple of take downs in the first round. Volkmann seems a little overwhelmed, at the end of the round Thiago drops Volkmann, but is saved by the bell.
Round two: Volkmann scores a take down but Thiago is back to his feet . They are back in the clinch trading punches and knees. Then Volkmann scores another takedown. Thiago scrambles out and end up back on top dropping elbows. End of the round.
Volkmann get dropped by another big shot but recovers. Volkmann scores a takedown and gets Thiago in a crucifix, but can’t make it happen. Thiago reverses and ends up on top. Volkmann witha very sneaky d’arce choke from the botoem but couldn’t hold it and the fight ends with Thiago dropping elbows.
Paulo Thiago defeated Jacob Volkmann by unanimous decision 29-28,30-27,30-27
Josh Koscheck vs Anthony Johnson
This fight turn out to be a crazy eye poking event. Anthony had to have surgery because of a previous eye poke. They move in and trade punches, neither fighter really committing to anything big. Then Josh shoots in for takedown, but is stuffed by Johnson. In the scramble, back to his feet Johnson lands a huge knee to a downed opponent. Josh is holding his left eyes, but in the replay I could not see what happened to his left eye. In the slow motion replay it looks like he got a finger in his right eye not his left. Back to action, Johnson land nice leg kicks. Josh shoots and Johnson tries to defend but Josh get the take down. They scramble for position but the round ends.
Round two starts with Josh poking Johnson in the eye then again a few seconds later. The fight is halted for second time for a eye poke. The action resumed, Johnson looking for a big shot but Josh scores another takedown and this time starts dropping bombs on Johnson. Johnson scramble to get out but gives Josh his back. Bad move because Josh sinks in rear naked choke and forces Johnson to tap.
Josh Koscheck defeated Anthony Johnson by rear-naked choke in Round 2.
Forrest comes out and lands a nice leg lick and a nice head shot. Tito fires back, wasting no time taking Forrest to the ground. Tito trying to work his ground and pound but Forrest is doing a great job defending and taking very little damage. Forrest scrambles out and lands some nice punches and hard leg kicks.
Round two, Tito wanting nothing to with standing with Forrest take him down. Again, Forrest works his was back to his feet and goes to work on Tito with leg kick and combos to Tito’s big melon head. Forrest lands a nice front kick right to Tito’s face witch causes his mouthpiece to go flying. This stops the action to rinse off Tito’s mouthpiece. Tito scores a takedown and drops some big elbows on Forrest which opens a big gash on the left side of Forrest head. Blood flowing like a river out of the cut. Forrest sweeps Tito and does some ground and pound himself. The round ends and Tito out of frustration pushes Forrest as they stand before returning to their corner.
Round three, Tito is gassed and Forrest starts picking him apart. Forrest lands hard leg kicks and following with great combos. Tito has no answer for Forrest except to try a takedown, but Forrest easily defends. Forrest just tees off on Tito and goes on to win the fight in decision.
Forrest Griffin defeated Tito Ortiz by split decision 28-29, 30-27, 29-28
I will have to point out the mad skills that Josh Koscheck showed in the fight with Anthony Johnson. Josh is on my list of top 10 most hated MMA fighters but he has developed into one of the top contender in his division. I think Josh is right, he should get a title shot with GSP before Dan Hardy.
Tito is #9 on my list of most hated MMA fighters and after last night he should move up a few places. We saw the same old Tito we have always seen. He runs his mouth and couldn’t back it up, then has a list of excuses of why he gassed out or didn’t preform well. Tito excuses what that he had a bulging disc in him back and a fractured skull. I saw nothing new from Tito and if he wishes to stay in the UFC, he a lot of work to do.
The Prelims

Kendall Grove def. Jake Rosholt by Submissin Triangle Choke
Brian Foster def. Brock Larson by Submission Strikes
Caol Uno vs. Fabricio Camoes by decision
George Sotiropoulos def. Jason Dent by Submission Armbar

Thanks John. UFC 106 was another great fight card. Hell anytime Tito gets beat is a good fight card. I have to say I am very excited about Sanchez vs Penn and Mir vs Kongo. Sounds like a good time to me.

Awesome recap thanks, I didn’t get a chance to catch the first couple of fights. Disappointed that Tito gassed out by round three, im not a big fan of griffin either but I was up for a good fight. I hate Koscheck that second eye poke was so blatant, what a scumbag. Looking forward to 107.

Thanks for the comment. We saw nothing new from Tito fought just like he did 2 years ago. I’m glad we both agree Koschech is a scumbag. I have never liked him. Make sure you enter the UFC 107 fight prediction contest. You could win $100
