OK fight fans here we go! UFC 106 Ortiz vs Griffin II live on PPV from the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas on Nov. 21. UFC 106 was initially expected to feature a heavyweight title fight between champion Brock Lesnar and top contender Shane Carwin. Lesnar fell ill and the fight was moved to UFC 108 but Lesner is out of UFC 108 with mono.
Ortiz was scheduled to face Mark Coleman on his return to the cage but injuries sidelined Coleman. The UFC was in a scramble to put the fight back together and Forrest Griffin stepped up and took a rematch with Ortiz. Anthony Johnson and Josh Koscheck agreed to fight and be the co-main event for UFC 106.
Anthony Johnson just fought in UFC 104 where he missed weight by 5 pounds. Anthony was fined 20% of his prize money and was ineligible for fight of the night bonuses. It’s to bad because Johnson destroyed Yoshiyuki Yoshida in 41 seconds of the first round, costing him $60,000.
This fight card could turn out to be entertaining and have some great action. Remember this is only my opinion and what I think might happen. Make sure to check out Extremjohn”s UFC 106 fight predictions he always has some great picks and great commentary.
The UFC also welcomes Phil Baroni back to the octagon lets hope your return to the cage doesn’t turn out like Frank Triggs did.
OK let get to the fight card.

Forrest Griffin(16-6-0) vs. Tito Ortiz (16-6-0-1)
Tito ’s last fight was against Lyoto Michida where he lost in decision. Before that he only fought a couple of times. A loss to Chuck in 2006 and a draw with Rashad in 2007. After Michida, he left the UFC and had a bad falling out with Dana White. Tito has had surgery on his back, now he says he is in great shape and ready to return to fighting. I am wondering if ring rust and Tito’s new lifestyle will effect his game. Tito is not one of my favorite fighters he made #9 on my top 10 most hated MMA fighters.
Forrest’s last fight was against Anderson Silva and if you watched the fight you know it was total domination of Forrest Griffin. Forrest has the the heart of a warrior and Anderson ripped it right out of Forrest”s chest and showed it to him. Forrest disappeared for a long time before Forrest finaly talked to the media. He seems very strange and completely different then his usual carefree self.
I’m hopeing Forrest has his game face on because I am expecting Tito to come trying to make a statement. If this fight gets out of the first round I believe it will turn into great battle.
My pick: Forrest Griffin 3 rd tko
Anthony Johnson(8-2-0) vs. Josh Koscheck(15-4-0)
Now, I am very excited about this fight. Even though Josh made #4 on my top 10 most hated fighters, he has come along way. His last fight he almost retired Frank Trigg with a devastating knock out in 1:25 into the first round. Josh has stepped up his game especially his stand up and has some great knockout power.
Anthony Johnson is on a three fight win streak, two fights by TKO in the first round and one by knockout in the 3rd. Johnson is an animal and has very heavy hands. These two should put on a great show. I think if Josh wants to win this fight, he will have to take it to the ground. If Josh tries to stand and bang with Johnson it’s going to be lights out.
My pick: Anthony Johnson 1rd ko
Phil Baroni(13-11-0) vs. Amir Sadollah(2-1-0)
Phil doesn’t have the best record in MMA, but he has fought the who’s-who in the MMA world. His last fight was against Joe Riggs and he lost in decision. Phil has a ton of experience over Amir and I hope he uses it. Phil has a good stand up game and he a can work on the ground also. Phil might want to keep this fight standing up I’m not sure if Phil wants to take it to the ground with this opponent.
Amir won the TUF show and don’t let his looks fool you he can fight. His last fight he got knocked out in 29 seconds of the first round by Johny Henricks. Some say the fight was called early, but Amir was clearly out. Amir is going to have a tough time fighting Phil. He had better not try and stand with Phil because he will be checking his eye lids for holes if he does. I believe his only chance is to get it to the ground and go for a submission.
My pick: Phil Baroni 2 rd ko
Luiz Cane(11-1-1) vs. Antonio Rogerio Nogueira(17-3-0)
This should turn out to be a very interesting match up. Cane is on a three fight win streak and has some impressive win over Jason Lambert, Sokoudjou and Steve Cantwell. Cane is a vicious striker and almost all his fights have ended in TKO stoppages. He should have the advantage in the stand up, but may have a problem with Nogueira on the ground.
Antonio Rogerio Nogueira is on a five fight win streak and has victory’s over greats like Dan Henderson, Guy Mezger and the Strikeforce current heavy weight champion Alistair Overeem. Little Nog is no joke and these guys are going to battle. This one will be hard to call but I’m going to go with Cane on this one.
My pick: Luiz Cane 3 rd decision
Dustin Hazelett(14-4-0) vs. Karo Parisyan(26-5-0-2)
This fight will most likely be fought on the ground. Dustin is very comfortable on the canvas, 9 out of his 12 victory’s have be submission and 2 by decisions. Karo Parisyan has a very impressive list of fighters on his resume. He truly has fought the who’s-who in the UFC. Karo is very good on the ground also, this may not be the most exciting fight to watch but it should be a very technical ground war.
My pick:Karo Parisyan 2 rd submission
The UFC and Spike TV will once again team up and show the prelims commercial free on Spike TV starting at 9:00pm on Nov. 21. This will be the third time they have done this and I hope now its the norm for all UFC pay for view events. The last two time the prelims were amazing and the fans got to see some incredible fights that other wise we would not get to see. Kendall Grove vs. Jake Rosholt and Marcus Davis vs. Ben Saunders will be the featured fight. Depending how fast the fights go will determine how many prelims we get to see.
Marcus Davis(21-6-0) vs. Ben Saunders(7-1-2)
My pick:Marcus Davis
Kendall Grove(12-6-0) vs. Jake Rosholt(6-1-0)
My pick:Kendall Grove
Paulo Thiago( 11-1-0) vs. Jacob Volkmann(9-0-0)
Mypick:Paulo Thiago
Brian Foster(14-4-0) vs. Brock Larson(27-3-0)
My pick:Brock Larson
Fabricio Camoes(10-4-0) vs. Caol Uno(25-12-4)
My pick:Caol Uno
Jason Dent(19-10-0) vs. George Sotiropoulos(10-2-0)
My pick:George Sotiropoulos
