UFC 105 Fight Recap

by James on November 15, 2009 115 views to the Head

UFC 105 was a great fight card and had a couple of surprise endings.  The Swick vs Hardy fight was an amazing display of counter punching. Randy proved once again that he belongs in the octagon at 46 and he can take a shot at the light heavy weight belt. Bisping moves one more step up the ladder at his shot at a title.

Good month to be an MMA fan with UFC 105 this weekend and UFC 106 next weekend. If you read my picks for UFC  105, I was 1 for 5 and totally off the mark. I have already done my UFC 106 fight prediction so check them out. I think I did a better job on 106 than 105. Also check out Extremejohns UFC 106 fight predictions.

Ross Pearson vs Aaron Riley

Pearson just picked apart Riley and beating him for the entire first round. The second round was almost the same until Pearson landed a jumping knee that opened up a huge gash on Riley’s forehead stopping the fight in the second round. Pearson looked very impressive,  his fight game has definitely developed.

Matt Brown vs James Wilks

They sized each other up then Wilks tries a submission by jumping on Matt’s back with no luck. Matt lands some nice solid strikes in the clinch. Brown winning the stand up. The second round Brown lands a big flying knee and almost ends the fight, but Wilks recovers. Brown still winning the stand up game but Wilks trying to get it to the ground. In the third round, Wilks seems a little gassed and Brown just pours it on they end up on the ground. Wilks has Brown in a deep kimura as they roll Brown ends up on top. Bad news for Wilks, Brown starts dropping bombs and ends the fight by TKO.

Michael Bisping vs Denis Kang

The first round, Denis seems to be winning the fight. He rocked Bisping with a big right and down they go. Kang on top of Bisping controling the fight. In the second round, Bisping takes Kang down and the fight completely changes. Bisping dominating Kang on the ground, Bisping overwhelmed Kang and the fight ends by TKO.

Mike Swick vs Dan Hardy

In round one, Hardy comes out a hits Swick with a big over hand right and sets the tone for the fight. These guys put on a counter punching clinc all three rounds. Swick just couldn’t handle Hardy power. Hardy rocked Swick all three rounds and wins  the fight by unanimous decision.

Couture vs Vera

Randy took control of the fight from the beginning. Randy kept Vera close and pushed him up against the fence. Randy did not want anything to do with Vera’s stand up game. Not the most exciting fight, but Randy is winning by keeping control of Vera. Round two is about the same until they break apart, Vera lands a hard kick to the body of Couture and drops him. Vera could not finish Randy and the ref stands them back up.  In round three, Randy still controling the fight. Vera land some nice kicks to the body of Randy and he  just powers through. Randy’s winning the fight with some great dirty boxing. Randy wins by unanious decision.

I really would have loved excitement in the main event but it wasn’t meant to be that was my thought going into the fight, and Randy pretty much summed it up in the interviews leading up to the fight. Pretty much said he would be hugging and trying to pound.

Nice recap bro.

Just wanted to drop a quick note.
Thanks for a good summary!
I was very impressed by Hardy, I am a big fan but honestly wasnt sure he would be able to perform the way he did against Swick.
Bisping looks to really have benefitted from being knocked out by Hendersson!
Randy came in with a game plan that he executed by the letter, I can respect that. Looking at damage dealt I thought he lost the game though.

I am 100 % with you. I am a huge Dan Hardy fan.He look very good against Swick I wounder how he will do against GSP?. Bisping looked really good and he keep him mouth shut. I think Hederson knocked some sence into him. Randy is the master at putting together a great game plan. He stuck to it thats for sure. I think he was given the fight because he control Vera all three rounds. Thank for taking the time comment and look for the UFC 107 fight prediction sometime this week

Thanks John. I think Randy knew he had to keep Vera close or he was going to get killed in the clinch. Randy knew what he had to do and stuck to it all 3 rounds.

I’m glad to see that Bisping has become more humble after getting his world rocked by Henderson. Dan Hardy’s power proved to be too much for Swick’s speed. If only Vera could have figured out an answer for Randy’s dirty boxing he would have came away with the win, because his mui thai kicks were just crushin Randy’s ribs
