UFC 104 Fight Recap

by James on October 25, 2009 121 views to the Head

First off! Congratulation to Jdash Ride he won the UFC 104 fight prediction contest. He scored 11 out of 15 point and picked 4 out of 5 fighter.

Well, there were some great fight at UFC 104 and a lot of controversy. Once again, we the fan has to suffer through another round of bad judging by the California State Athletic Commission. They only make MMA and the UFC look bad, that’s the only thing that the UFC has no control over, if they did, we would not have this kind of controversy.

People on Twitter were saying the fight was fixed and the UFC influenced the judges. Are you on crack? You really think Dana White would let that happen? I am a huge Lyoto Machida fan and I will tell you right now, he lost the fight to Shogun. For all the stupid people the UFC has no control ovethe judges, the CSAC is the governing body over the judging. This is not the first time something like this has happened. A month ago Chase Bebe lost a fight in decision and the fight was so one sided that they protested the Virginia state Athletic Commission until they changed it to a no contest.

I also read that the UFC fixed the fight to keep Machida as champ so Randy Couture could have a shot at Machida and take the light heavy weight belt back. This is dumbest thing I have heard in a long time. First Randy would have to beat Brandon Vera(not going to happen) and last night at the press conference Dana said Shogun would get an immediate rematch because of the bad decision. So before you open you mouth and let everyone know your a moron Know your facts.

Now lets get to the fights.

Anthony Johnson vs Yoshiyuki Yoshida

Anthony Johnson weighed in at 176 the max weight was171. He was fined 20% of his purse and he also lost out on knockout of the night which cost him $60,000. Johnson made short work of Yoshiyuki and knocked him out in 41 seconds of the first round.

Joe Stevenson vs Spencer Fisher

They battled back and fourth during the first round. Spencer got hit with a left cross that opened up a cut above his right eye. Close to the end of round one Stevenson finally gets a take down and start to work on Fisher but the round ended. In the second round, Stevenson get a quick take down and starts to take control of the fight. Stevenson lands some nice shots and even tries a foot lock but ends up in side control and droping short elbows. Herb Dean stops the fight with about a minute to go in round two.

Cain Velasquez vs Ben Rothwell

Cain starts the action with a nice leg kick and then a take down. Rothwell scrambles trying to get to his feet but Cain dumps him back to the canvas. Rothwell gets back to his feet only to be taken down again and  then Cain goes to work dropping bombs on Rothwell from side mount. Rothwell tries to get back to his feet but everytime he does Cain slams him back down. Cain just dominated Rothwell on the ground. Rothwell taking a lot of damage in the first round. The second round was about the same Cain just landing big punches and they stop the fight 58 seconds into the second round.

John Neer vs Gleison Tibau

The action starts with Neer throwing some punches and Tibau ducks under for a take down. Neers gets back up and lands some nice punches and Tibau takes him back down. This goes on for all of round one. In the second round, Josh Neer was winning the stand up, but Tibau keep taking  Josh down. The third round was about the same. Tibau takes Neer down at will but does no damage. Josh landed nice punches but Tilbau take him down again and again. Tilbau wins in decision, but all Tibau did was take Josh down a hundred times but did no damage. Another bad decision by the CSAC.

Lyoto Machida vs Shogun Rua

The fight was slow to get started, but Shogun had a game plan and stated with some powerful leg kicks. As they engage, Shogun landed hard body kicks over and over. Machida was landing punches and some nice body kicks himself, but Shogun was just out scoring him. One thing that was over looked was the fact  Machida stuffed ever single take down attempt that Showgun tried. All five round we the same. They would trade back and forth with Shogun landing hard leg Kicks and body shots. Machida may has won 2 out of the 5, but the judges scored  all five rounds for Machida, but clearly Shogun won the fight and found the weak spot in Machida armor.

I have been reading a few things that point out some very valid reasons behind why Machida was given the win.

The fact that he stopped takedown attempts and Shogun had a poor connection % in the third round. Judges had Machida winning the first two with the third being the deciding round and Shogun winning the final two.

Thanks to too much drinking I missed the friggin fight.

Im stoked on winning this.. The funny thing is, I kept those exact picks on my mmaplayground account except I changed to Tibau UD after watching some fights. If I would have changed it on here, I would have been almost 100% besides the Stevenson submission
