The Ultimate Fighter final was a fun filled night of great fight. Dana White has to be very happy with the results of last night’s fights. The fights had to bring in some new fans with TUF final live and free on Spike TV. The first time they have ever had a TUF final on a Saturday night. I can’t wait until they release the numbers on this event. The only other competitor on was Nascar Busch race. I wonder how the ratings were for both events.
The night started off with Joe Stevenson vs Nate Diaz. These guys went at each other, and Stevenson just had too much power for Diaz. Keeping Diaz on his back all most all three rounds. Diaz tried many times for a submission but Stevenson countered. Stevenson’s new camp seemed to help him greatly. Stevenson look really good against Diaz, winning the fight by unanimous decision. Improving Joe Stevenson’s record to 34-10-0 and drops Nate Diaz record to 10-3-0. They also won fight of the night earning a extra $25,000 each.
The next fight was Ross Pearson vs Andre Winners. The Fight for the $100,000 dollar contract . They really let it all hang out . They spent a lot of time in the clinch landing short punches and elbows. They stayed close to each other with some nasty dirty boxing. They traded back and forth all three rounds. Ross Pearson just out worked Winners to get the win. Pearson record improves to 10-3-0 and Winners drops to 10-2-1. Pearson wins TUF 9 final and the $100,000 contract with the UFC.
The next fight was Chris Lytle vs Keven burns. If you missed this fight, you missed something special. These guys just stood in the center of the cage and through bombs at each other. Lytle kept landing nasty left hooks on Burns over and over. Near the end of the first round Burns lands a huge upper cut on Lytle and almost drops him. Lytle weathered the storm and recovered. In round two, Lytle took control and picked Burns apart. The third round Burns seemed to gas out and Lytle turned it on. Burns is one tuff SOB and look for him back in the cage real soon. I gained a ton of respect for Burn after this fight. Lytle wins the fight by unanimous decision improving his record to 36-17-4 Kevin Burns Drops to 8-2-0. They also won fight of the night earning a extra $25,000 each.
The next fight was DaMarques Johnson vs James Wilks. Johnson was the only fighter from the US team to make the final. Johnson was favored in this fight but somebody forgot to tell Wilks. Wilks landed huge punches right from the start and Johnson felt the power. They traded back and forth Johnson coming out on the short end of the stick. They ended up on the ground and with only 5 seconds left on the clock Wilks submitted Johnson with a rear naked choke. Wilks record improves to 6-2-0 and Johnson drops to 14-6-0. Wilks win TUF9 final and the $100,000 contract with UFC.
The main event was Dirty Sanchez vs Clay Guida. There were fireworks going off before the fight ever started. The most intense stare down I have ever seen. Sanchez looked very intense walking into the cage and continued through the touching of the gloves. Sanchez comes out swinging and lands some nice shoots on Guida. Most likely he broke Guida nose right from the start. They tee off on each other in the center of the cage. Sanchez lands a kick to the head of Guida and drops him, but Guida survives. The second round Guida takes Sanchez down and keeps him there most of the round. Sanchez doing some damage from the bottom and cuts Guida on his right temple. A lot of blood dripping from Guida at this point. The third round they stay on there feet most of the round trading punches and kicks. Near the end of the round they go back to the ground with Guida on top but not really causing any damage. Sanchez wins the fight by split decision. Sanchez improves his record to 22-2-0 and Guida drop to 25-6-0. They also won fight of the night earning an extra $25,000 each.
