Ok fight fans once again we were treated to another great fight card put on by Strikeforce. Last night’s fight card was packed full of action and if you blinked you might have missed some of it. Herschel Walker made an impressive MMA debut. Walker stepped into the cage at the age of 47 and schooled Grey Nagy. Bobby Lashly also made his Strikeforce debut last night and show he has a bright future in the sport of MMA. Cris Cyborg showed why she is the Stikrforce women’s champion by defending he title for the first time. Nick Diaz crowned champion last night and he sent a message to the welter weight division that it will not be a easy task to take his belt.
Strikeforce’s first fight of the year started with a bang. Look for great things form Strikeforce this year, I cant wait to see what fight card’s they put together this year. There was a lot of action last night so let get to it.
Bobby Lashley vs Wes Sims
The fight started with Sims trying to land a couple of punches. Lashley timed it just right, ducked under a big right hand from Sims and took him down and went to work. Lashley wasted no time and started to do some damage. Sims turtled up and was face to face with Lashley, he started unloading on Sims. Sims could do nothing but sit there a get punched in the face. Sims finally decided he had enough of that and tried to scrabble out but ended up on his back with Lashley dropping bombs on him. Finlay Sims lays out flat and the ref stopped the fight.
Winner: Bobby Lashley by first round TKO
Robbie Lawler vs Melvin Manhoef
They both came out swinging and Manhoef was landing more then Lawler. Manhoef started landing some of the most vicious leg kicks I have ever seen. Lawler not looking so good, he was just trying to deal with Manhoef’s aggression. Manhoef landing nice combo’s of punches and ending with his vicious leg kick. This was a completely one sided for the first 3 minutes and and 50 seconds then Lawler finally throw a big over hand right that connects and Hanhoef is out on his feet. Manholf hits the canvas, Lawler right on top of him and drops two more bombs on him before the ref can pull him off. The fight is over at 3 minutes and 53 seconds of the fight round. Lawler puts off one the most devastating knock out I have seem in a while. This was a great fight I am looking forward to seeing more of Manhoef. Now I would like to see a rematch of Lawlwer and Shields.
Winner: Robbie Lawler by first round KO
Herschel Walker vs Greg Nagy
I said if Herschel won, I would give his credit and I will do so. Herschel came out a little stiff and I’m sure the adrenaline was flowing. Then he relaxed a little and he to work on Nagy, taking him down and opposing his will. Herschel controlled Nagy on the ground trapping his arm and then throwing punches when he had a opening. Herschel avoided any type of submission attempt made by Nagy. Herschel took Nagy down almost at will and Nagy had no answer. This went on for all three round finally at 2:13 sec of the third round Nagy couldn’t handle any more of Herschel beating on him, the ref stopped the fight. Herschel Walker’s first fight he was very impressive, he can fight and I will be looking forward to seeing him back in the cage.
Cristiane “Cyborg” Santos vs Marloes Coenen
The fight starts out very fast with both women throwing punches and Coenen landing a nice front leg kick. It doesn’t take long for Cyborg to get control of the fight and takes down Coenen. Cyborg trying to do some damage but Coenen does a great job of avoiding a lot of damage. Coenen does very little from the bottom to get her in a better position and out of the way of Cyborgs big right hand raining down punches on he face.
The second round started with Cyborg throwing a powerful flurry and Coenen ended up on her back. Coenen just couldn’t handle the power of Cyborg. She was dominated by Cyborgs power and aggression.
The third round Cyborg just stayed on Coenen, using her power to dominate Coenen in every clinch and then when it went to the ground all Coenen could do was cover up and try to stop punches that Cyborg was feeding her. Late in the third round Cyborg pored it on and the ref finally stopped the fight.
Winner: Cristiane “Cyborg” Santos by TKO in the 3 round
Nick Diaz vs Marius Zaromskis
Marius known for his kicks came out first thing and tried to throw a jumping side kick. Diaz would have none of this. Then it was on, they both started swing for the fences. A slug fest was on, Diaz using his much improved boxing skills was just out landing Marius. Diaz’s accuracy was amazing he landed punch after punch which I’m sure overwhelmed Marius. Marius seems a little rubber legged for second as Daiz kept moving forward. Diaz dropped his hands for a second and Marius connects with a good shot that rocks Diaz and he falls to the canvas. Marius moves in for the kill but Daiz seems to keep his head and recovers. Daiz get back to his feet and starts pressing forward landing punch after punch. Daiz finally lands a nice set of punches and ends with a huge body shot that hurt Marius. Maris is getting overwhelmed at this point and Diaz is just turning up the heat. Finaly Diaz lands a shot right hook that drops Marius and the fight was stopped. Diaz looked very impressive, every fight he keeps getting better. Diaz is not a fan favorite but I have to say I like Nick and look forward to seeing him in the cage again defending his belt.

@Geoff I would have to say it’s probably a non issue, not to mention if nothing else it creates buzz.
Great night of fights that’s for sure, hats off to Strikeforce.

Manhoef looked sooo dam impressive, until that nasty ass punch Lawler through! Dam. Herschel Walker didn’t really impress me that much with his ground game. I felt like I was watchin two kids fighting in the school yard. Pinning the other guys hands down was pathetic , in my opinion. But to be honest he did get the sport more publicity and that AOK in my book

Its all about the victory.
Do what you can to win da fight.
If the guys to weak to get out of the hold then punish him for it, not Hershel.

Geoff I don’t think Dana will be mad at GSP they are really close friends. Strikeforce said UFC several time during the night witch suprised me. Free advertising for UFC. It’s that the best kind of Free.

Sangalicious he did get a lot of publicity for the sport. This was his first fight ever in a cage ofcourse he looked bad.You know I was not happy about Walker join MMA but I will say he did do a great job on his first fight. Nagy sucks as a fighter and should hang it up. If Herschel was in the cage with a seasoned fighter he would have gotten killed.

For sure!! Nagy was terrible, I did like the way Walker handled himself though, he was very clear saying he didn’t aspire to be a champ, he just wants to fight, nothind wrong with that ,right? He said he would not have a great ground game as” you cant learn BJJ over night” I give this guy mad props for being honest and very respectful to the sport. Sure, if he fought a journeyman fighter he probably would have been destroyed, just like a journeyman in any trade should destroy an apprentice. I think this was a good start and we’ll get to see him fight someone who will show us were he’s really at. Hopefully, for his sake, the excitement to see him fight or his passion to get better doesn’t go away. Judging by way he handled all other ventures, ie: College, Pro ball and even an Olympic run, almost two sports he should continue to impress the nay sayers.Win or Lose.

ment to put this post in here lol..
between GSP and Nick diaz i cant choose whos my favorite fighter lol, i was impressed by diaz yet again..he loves to fight and thats the bottom line, seein him go down i was a little nervous but i knew hes got it in him to get back up and bang till someone makes him stop, impressive win..last nights fights were all pretty good, i was glad to see walker win, he definitly didn’t look like a rookie last night buuuuuuut i hate it when people are fed wins, they obviously knew walker would walk out of that ring with a win… how many of the greats were fed wins ? i cant even think of one of them… nothing against walker tho hes the man, i’m just sayin … cyborg is also the man and i think im finally comfortable sayin that a girl really could be me up, well whatever she is lol, and robbie mother truckin lawler, hats off to ya, that fight was a perfect example that if your fighting a trained well rounded mma fighter, even making the slightest mistake will make it nappy jammy time
R.I.P MANHOEF haha

You gotta give Walker props for even getting into the ring at 47.
I bet he will improve, can’t wait for the next fight.

I agree I was’nt really excited abou walker fight’n but I was suprized how well he handled himself hopefully he will fight again…with a proper apponent, I also got a laugh of Wes Sims and his “Test of strength” challenge to Lashley at the beginning of their fight..looks like Lashley may be up for a title shot the higher ups of the company want him to go against higher quality compatition and Lashley is say’n if thats the case he want a shot at the belt next fight possibly Rogers if he can pull off a “W” give him the shot!
[Reply]
Lashley would be a good challenge for fedor
[Reply]
I’d like to see Fedor fight Rogers again but a Lashley fight could be good as well. You think Lashley could take Fedor though, looking at Fedor’s fight clips on the U tube he seems to have no trouble with the big guys. Should be a great show thogh. I say get Fedor in the ring and hopefully someone will KO his UFC duckin ass.

Fedor’s next fight is against Alistar Overeem winner of Lashley Rogers will probly fight winner of that fight ….anybody heard anything bout Fedor’s bro Alexander?????

the MMA fighter best known as the younger brother of world heavyweight champion Fedor Emelianenko, has been appearing in small shows around the world over the last year since failing to get medical clearance to fight in California in August of 2008( HEP B). But on Saturday he tried something new: Instead of appearing on a small MMA show, he appeared on a small boxing show, fighting opponent Hizir Pliev to a four-round draw. Even with Hepatitis you can fight in Russia!!!! This fight was in Oct 09.

Dave, Walker was impressive and I will watch him fight again. Next I would like to see a better opponent.
[Reply]
I not real sure Lashley is ready for Rogers but I would be a hell of a show. Lashley wants to take it slow and build up to to a title shot. I don’t like Strikeforce pushing a fighter into fights he not ready for. Like Roger vs Gaydor if Rogers had more experance in the cage he might not have lost.
[Reply]
Geoff I gald we share the same views on UFC ducker Fedor. I believe Rogers learned a big lession fighting Fedor the fight time. The second time He will not make the same mistake. We he had him down he should have never let him up. He was on his way to beating Gaydor.
[Reply]
Gaydor.. thats a good name for em. I feel like Lashley isn’t ready for Fedor as well. No need to rush him along with so many other matchups they could have. Bam said Lashley is fighting Rogers…. Is that for sure Bam.

Cool , in regards to the question on that page I will say oh hell ya! Lahley should be able to take Rogers down, cant see Rogers submitting Bobby like Gaydor might be able to. I bet Lashley could tire Rogers and possibly grind out a decision if he keeps Rogers pinned and avoids stand up into the 2nd and 3rd.
