Randy Couture VS Mark Coleman Offical For UFC 109: Now Anderson Sliva is Out

Post image for Randy Couture VS Mark Coleman Offical For UFC 109: Now Anderson Sliva is Out

The UFC is in a mad scramble to keep together the fight card for UFC 109, but now just as they signed the comain event, new is that Anderson Silva is out. The UFC is plagued with injury and illness, earlier this week Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira and Gabriel Gonzaga both droped out of UFC 108 with staph infection. Brock is out indefinitly and Shane Carwin took sometime off to have surgery on his knee. The UFC heavyweight division has taken the hardest hit form all the injuries and illness and now it looks like it’s hitting the lightweight division.

The UFC his having a hard time replacing all the injured and sick fighters, especially the main event fighters. I am hoping that the UFC 107 BJ Penn vs Diego Sanches fight card remain intact. I am really looking forward to Penn vs Sanchez and Mir vs Kongo.

The first time in UFC history, two UFC Hall Of Famers will enter the octagon. Light heavyweights Mark Coleman and Randy Couture were signed as the co-main event then reports come out that Anderson Silva can not compete at UFC 109 because he is not 100% recovered from his elbow surgery. The earliest we could see Anderson back in the octagon is April.

The last time we saw Randy in the octagon was at UFC 105 against Brandon Vera. The fight was not the most action packed fight in history but Randy did pull out the win.  Mark Coleman’s last time in the octagon was at UFC 100 where he fought Stephan Bonnar, again not the most exciting fight in the world but Coleman won in decision. Maybe 5 years ago I would have been very excited about this fight, but now I’m really not sure how I fell about it.

That leaves the big question is Couture vs Coleman main event material? If Couture and Coleman become the main event and Nate Marquardt vs. Chael Sonnen becomes the comain event will people buy the PPV?

UFC 109 fight card as of right now.

Mark Coleman vs. Randy Couture
Nate Marquardt vs. Chael Sonnen
Demian Maia vs. Dan Miller
Matt Serra vs. Frank Trigg
Rob Emerson vs. Phillipe Nover
Rolles Gracie vs. Mostapha Al Turk
Melvin Guillard vs. Ronnys Torres

Leave a comment and tell me if you would buy  UFC 109 if the main event stays Couture vs Coleman?

I will not be buying this on pay per view. Couture is not worth seeing in a main event unless it’s for a title shot or free on Spike TV for non title fights. Mark Coleman does not look impressive at all. I liked him in the old Pride days. I will be watching this free the next day online.

Couture v Coleman a main event? With all due respect, but that is a laugh!
Neither of the fighters are main event material, I have never been a big fan of either but they are nowhere near being able to carry an event.
Like Mike C I enjoyed watching Coleman in Pride but even at the last event in Pride he looked past it.

I would personally rate Serra v Triggs before Couture v Coleman.
I would never pay for that event.

Mike C. I am hoping that Dana will get another fight together as the main event. I believe he knows Randy vs Coleman won’t sell a PPV. Time is running out to put a big main event together.

Your are right Randy and Coleman can’t carry the event. With time running short I wounder if they have time to make a replacement. The big question is who?

Someones gathering their pay cheques. Is it me or does randy seem to be fighting at every other odd numbered ufc, he’s only just fought vera and literally just before that wasn’t it nogueira? The guy is a legend but he can keep filling seats and selling ppv’s
