O.k so here we sit waiting to see what will happen when MMA meets Boxing as Boxing Legend Roy Jones JR. headlines the pay per view card which features the first mixed event with a true Boxer on it. On tonight’s card from the Boxing side of combat sports is Roy Jones JR. vs Omar Sheika who is deemed by some as dangerous. Now on the MMA side of things which of course is the side of things we really care about we have the guy that knocked Kimbo and an entire organization down Seth Petruzelli, professional wrestling monster Bobby Lashley and probably the most interesting of all the MMA fights Jeff Monson vs Roy Nelson.
We will be posting the live results from the entire Roy Jones JR pay per view fight as the events happen, even though there’s probably not many of you reading the site tonight MMA Punk will still continue to do it right.
I have to say that one thing I like about this is the fact that they are getting right down to the fight, I think it stinks that Seth Petruzelli is not actually fighting tonight but he is doing a decent job at announcing at the moment.
FIRST FIGHT – MMA featuring Danny Ruiz vs Dennis Hallman
Tap Tap Tap. Hallman taps out Danny Ruiz about 2 minutes into the first round. Hallman worked the ground game right off the bell going for a takedown and after a clinch in the corner Hallman had his way with the takedown and finally grabbed Ruiz’s back. Hallman wins.
SECOND FIGHT – MMA featuring Gabe Lemley vs Din Thomas
As I expected Din finished Gabe and finished him with a devastating knee to the head from the clinch, which came right after some solid punches from Din Thomas.
THIRD FIGHT – MMA featuring Jason Guida vs Bobby Lashley
Lashley continues to go for the takedown and fails to hit it and Guida continues to hammer the inside legs of Lashley, as they are pressed up against the corner. The first round has been nothing but a hug fest with a few punches thrown after the ref broke them from the corner.
This is the first fight to go to the second round and not because the action was so amazing that it’s amazing that they both are standing after the first round. I hope the second round is better than the first, I think Bobby Lashley will need to do something to impress me at some point. This round ends much like it started with Bobby Lashley controlling position from the top after the takedown, Jason Guida did a decent job of not taking any major damage but at this point theres no way he is ahead on the score cards.
Third round was pretty uneventful except for the one moment when Jason Guida caught Bobby Lashley in a choke, Lashley finally popped his head out and stayed on top the entire time. This will go to the cards and Bobby Lashley will win on the judges cards.
FORTH FIGHT – Boxing featuring Jose Herrera vs BJ Flores
Two rounds have blown by and so far it’s very clear to me why I prefer MMA over Boxing any day of the week, this fight is slow with a whole lot of nothing going on thus far. I would have done round by round on this fight but it honestly exhausted me even though it was a pretty good Boxing match overall. Flores wins by Unanimous Decision.
MMA match featuring Jeff Monson vs Roy Nelson
This fight was back and forth and nothing pretty, much to my surprise this fight went the distance and as we all await the decision victory for Roy Nelson we will be pretty shocked if it doesn’t go Roy’s way. I am blown away right now as Monson gets the unanimous decision victory, this is the second fight of the night that makes no sense when it came to the decision from the judges cards. Crazy tonight. Jeff Monson Unanimous Decision.
Boxing match (The Main Event) features Sheika vs Roy Jones JR
Roy Jones dominates the first round in typical Roy Jones JR style with flashing hooks and some flashy body work it almost looks as if Roy is the Roy of old.
Second round follows the path of the first round and is easily another round scored for Roy Jones JR.
Ok wow…. Jones continues onslaught and out of nowhere in the fifth round the ref jumps in and stops the fight, Roy Jones JR wins. I personally think the fight was stopped a little too quickly even thought it was inevitable that Jones was going to win this fight.
