In a crazy weekend of MMA, with shocking results of UFC 101, now we have the shocking upset of Miguel Torres. Brian Bowles became the new WEC Bantamweight Champion on Sunday in the main event of WEC 42. He knocked out 135-pound title holder Torres in the opening round.
Bowles rocked Torres early and laned a nice take down. Bowles appeared to be in trouble as Torres landed some very nice punches that forced him to back off. Bowles connected with a huge right hook that dropped Torres to the canvas. Bowles moves in for the kill and quickly finish off the champ with punches.
Bowles remains undefeated and improved his record to 8-0 after his first round knockout. Torres drops to 37-2 after having his 17-fight win streak broken. It dated back to 2004.
Bowles win the Knockout of the night winning him a extra $10,000.
Fight of the Night goes to Dominick Cruz vs. Joseph Benavidez both will recive $10,000.
Submission of the Night goes to Rani Yahya he will recive $10,000.
